There have been a few severe floodings that were recorded in the city of Kuala Lumpur and this has prompted the Government through the Jabatan Pengairan dan Saliran (JPS) Malaysia to review, reanalyze and supplement the on-going flood mitigation projects that were implemented for the city of Kuala Lumpur.
One of the project to meet the above objective is the construction of a flood bypass tunnel. The project involves the construction of a tunnel of approximately 11km and 13.5m diameter to divert a large portion of the flood discharge from the Klang River, just downstream of the confluence with Ampang River to Taman Desa pond, before releasing it back into Klang River through Kerayong River. The project commenced in 2004 and is due for completion in 2007.
