The Flood Mitigation Master Plan Study For Sungai Buloh Catchment, Selangor, MALAYSIA

Areas adjacent to the Sungai Buloh system are frequently inflicted by flooding problems and the main reason is caused by rapid development within the catchment where the existing channel cannot cope with the increase in flood discharges. With this problem, a comprehensive flood mitigation master plan study to overcome the flooding problem in the Sungai Buloh catchment was carried out. The study commenced in 1999 and was completed in 2001. Among the scope of the services provided was as listed below:

• Data collection and review of previous studies;
• Hydrological and hydraulic analysis using Mike-11 models;
• Flood mitigation assessment;
• Sediment transport modeling and scouring analysis;
• Geotechnical analysis of the existing bank erosion;
• Proposed measures including preliminary design of bank protection and flood mitigation works; and
• Cost evaluation of all proposed options and implementation schedule.
